Photography workshops in wild locations with Austin Taylor! These trips are a bit more strenuous and, in the case of Noss, Mousa and around Sumburgh Head, will involve walking round the island/ headland (or part of it, depending on the group's wishes). The island trips offer amazing landscape and wildlife photo opportunities plus, on Mousa, the world famous broch. The walk to Fethaland rewards with a visit to the old haaf (deep-sea) fishing station and spectacular views overlooking Gruney and the Ramna Stacks in the wild North Atlantic. All workshops limited to 4 people. Fethaland – Approx. 5 miles - Dates on application Friday 19:00-21:00 - getting to know your camera tutorial (optional) Saturday Drive to Isbister to walk north up the track to the west of Lanchestoo, past Upper Loch of Setter and over the moorland towards Hill of Breibister before dropping down towards Fethaland and the haaf fishing station. We carry on up to the Isle of Fethaland, and admire spectacular views from the lighthouse. Finish Time at Isbister approx. 16:00, return to Lerwick approx. 17:00 Noss Approx. 6 miles - Dates on application Friday 19:00-21:00 - getting to know your camera tutorial (optional) Saturday 08:30 for 09:00 Ferries to Bressay and Noss to walk up the Noup stopping to see and photograph seals and landscape on the way and then, higher up and at the cliffs, puffins and gannets on the way. After lunch we continue round the island, with interesting landscape opportunities. We aim to be back at the wardens’ house in time to catch the 1700 ferry back to Lerwick. Mousa – Approx. 3 miles - Dates on application Sunday 09:00 - getting to know your camera tutorial (optional) then head to Sandwick in time for the 11:30 ferry to Mousa. We walk around the island, visiting the world famous broch and viewing other buildings, landscape and wildlife along the way including the resident seals at the West Pool, returning on the 14:30 Ferry to Sandwick and return to Lerwick just after 15:00. Sumburgh Head - Dates on application Saturday 09:00 - short getting to know your camera tutorial then drive to Sumburgh Hotel. From there we will follow the coastal path along the west coast taking in spectacular views of the Lighthouse and coastline along the way; we will get to the café for lunch, probably not around 1 PM. We will then spend some time photographing the birds around the RSPB Reserve and visiting the lighthouse exhibits. Depending on the weather and group’s wishes we could then either continue back to the vehicle(s) at Sumburgh Hotel via the east coast route over Compass Head or simply stay around the lighthouse and the Reserve, practising our photography on the many subjects there. If the weather is initially unfavourable we could instead spend time around the Visitor Centre until it improves and then walk either coast.
